This film has to be one of the greatest comedies of all time. If you are religious then you may find parts of it offensive and indeed there was a great deal of scandal when it came out but most of us understand that this movies is not aimed at offending religious people. Let’s get off that topic before I offend anyone by mistake!
Monty Python need no introduction so that make this a fairly pointless sentence. They created some of the most memorable and impactful comedy of the 1960s-80s and this film for many if the highlight.
As usual they mix the intelligent cultural commentary and historical knowledge with bizarre humour and some of Terry Gilliam’s wacky cartoons thrown in.
The acting is as always first class and the quality of this film took a huge step up in costume, location and directing from their previous work.
Graham Chapman, who is of course sadly missed now, gives a performance as good as any leading actor in a major film. The rest of the team are of course also hilarious and there are too many jokes here to list but this is one you must see before you die and that’s not a term I throw around lightly (largely for fear of being arrested for giving out death threats).
Comedy Simon says…
